FAQs

  • 1. What do I have to prepare?

Start sleeping early at least 1 week before, keep yourself hydrated and avoid drinking too much caffeine and alcohol as both dehydrate your body. Avoid excessive sun-tanning to prevent uneven tan lines or sunburnt face and be sure to apply moisturizer on a daily basis.

If you are planning to touch up your hair colour, best to do it a week before the shoot as freshly coloured hair can sometimes look too vibrant and distracting for a closeup headshot. For men intending to get a haircut, it is recommended to do it at least one week in advance so the hair doesn’t look too short for the shoot.

    2. Should I shave before my headshot session?

For the men, if you are going for a clean-shaven look, please shave before-hand as our makeup artist will not be able to help you with that.

For ladies, it will be a good idea to check for any upper lip or chin hair and have them shaved before the shoot as those will not be concealed by makeup.

    3. Can I do my headshot without makeup and hairstyling?

Yes you can, but it will not be ideal because a headshot is a more tightly framed personal portrait that really focuses on your face, because that is your personal brand. So you want to minimise any possible visual distractions such as dark eyes circles, pimples, shiny t-zone or messy, unkempt hair.

Hence we provide makeup and hairstyling to enhance your natural features so you can feel confident and ready for your shoot. Even for the men, we also make sure you look your best, with light makeup and hairstyling.

  • 1. Anything I should take note of for my outfits?

Have a think on what you want to wear. It should reflect how you would present yourself at work, i.e. at an important meeting, suitable for your industry, of course. So, grabbing the first thing you see in your wardrobe on the day of the shoot is not the best idea. Give yourself ample time to plan or shop for your outfit.

For colours, try to avoid full black tops for ladies with long black hair as your hair will blend in with your clothes. White tops are fine though, but make sure any innerwear is in nude/skin colour so it doesn’t show through white tops.

It is also best to avoid prints, patterns, strips on your clothes so the focus can be your face instead of the designs on your clothes.

General rule of thumb, make sure your clothes fit you well. You want to look smart and feel confident and comfortable at the same time, because how you feel will translate through your pictures.

    2. Do I need accessories?

For ladies, we advise you to bring along small earring studs if you have, as they add a touch of elegance to your look. Avoid anything that is too chunky or dangly as they take away the focus from your face in a headshot. Small, thin necklaces work so long as the neckline of your top allows for it.

For gentlemen, if you are wearing a jacket or suit, do bring along a pocket square and/or lapel pin. Such accessories to your outfit adds interesting details and gives the impression you pay attention to details too.

  • 1. Can I have a choice of a less formal headshot?

Of course! This is YOUR HEADSHOT. We are here to help. Tell us what you have in mind and we will walk you through the process of how we can do it with you. Typically, we advise our clients to bring 2 outfits, 1 that is work-appropriate, another 1 that is more casual or fun, so you have a variety of pictures to use for different online platforms. We will also guide you during the shoot itself on how to work your expression for different looks.

    2. Can you make me look slimmer in your edits?

It is our job to capture you at your best angle, and that will be done with use of lighting and camera angles during the shoot. While Photoshop has the ability to alter a person’s features and body shape, we will recommend your photo to look as close as possible to how you look in real life so it truly, and accurately reflects you.

    3. Do I need to prepare some poses in advance?

There is no need to prepare poses in advance. We just need you to relax, get comfortable with us and let us do the rest of the work to guide you step by step what to do in front of the camera.
